Filter and Testing Facts
WaterWell’s ultrafiltration technology was originally developed for people living in developing nations and for distribution in a humanitarian crisis.
Our ultrafilters filter up to 1000 litres of water - equal to 2000 plastic water bottles. The ultrafilters are compatible for both our 700ml travel water bottle and 500ml foldable water bottle.
WaterWell can filter out particles to 0.1micron whereas most of the filter bottles on the market only filter to 0.2 microns. This gives you cleaner, safer, and healthier drinking water.
The filter has two stages of filtration:
Stage 1. It uses activated carbon fibre, which is a super quick and efficient adsorption material. Carbon fibre filtration is concerned with chlorine removal, helps to improve, taste and odour. It also helps to remove some organic chemicals, VOC’s, pesticides and herbicides.
Stage 2. The 0.1-micron ultrafiltration membrane (hollow fiber) is a highly efficient method of filtration and requires no chemicals. it’s 99.9% effective against bacteria protozoa and cysts (the average size of bacteria is 0.5micron) The flow rate increases with each use as the water penetrate each layer of the filter. This means unlike iodine purification tablets, there’s no aftertaste.

The hollow fiber filter used in the WaterWell filters contains around 800-1000 fibers, totalling 0.2 meters squared of surface area. More surface area means a faster flow rate. It also means the filter lasts longer, letting you filter more water before needing to clean the filter to regain its flow rate. |
Hollow fiber filter - is composed of micro-thin hollow tubules which allow water to enter freely into their pores (0.1 micron) whilst trapping the waterborne pathogens, protozoa, parasites cysts and any other particles on the outside, it’s essentially like a sieve on the microscopic level. It’s 99.9% effective against bacteria protozoa and cysts (the average size of bacteria is 0.5micron). Minerals are not filtered out so the health benefits of these are retained. |
This has a higher specific surface area and allows for water to be in contact with carbon for a longer period than the traditional granulated active carbon filters, which leads to a better contaminant removal. The carbon removes impurities by absorbing impurities such as chlorine, organic chemicals, VOC’s, pesticides and herbicides into its pore substrate. The carbon also helps to improve, taste and odour. |
Official testing results for WaterWell filters
The results for the filtration system within WaterWell has been independently tested against internationally recognized standards by industry specialists in the USA, Europe, and India; all have confirmed that the filters in the WaterWell bottles eliminate over 99.9% of harmful contaminants in water.
Third party labs, SGS and BCS Laboratories of North Florida test results verify that particles to 0.1 microns can be removed at a rate of 99.9%. The test results meet EPA standards which are the Gold Standard for Environmental Protection around the World and it identifies contaminants to regulate in drinking water. The Agency sets regulatory limits for the amounts of certain contaminants in water provided by public water systems. These contaminant standards are required by the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA).

Things To Keep In Mind:
WaterWell filters are intended to remove biological particle contamination from water. Therefore, they will not be able to effectively filter additives such as isotonic powders, rehydration tablets, cordials, juices etc.
While the filter removes 99.9% of parasites and bacteria, it cannot filter salt water as the salt is chemically bonded to the water molecules. This includes urine, which also has a high salt content.
The filter removes 99% of chlorine for up 500 litres of tap water. However, it cannot filter out fluoride.

Touchless drinking nozzle to prevent cross contamination. Extend the lever down to expose the drinking nozzle. When the lever is closed the drinking nozzle is securely covered to prevent exposure to surrounding contaminants. |
Made from durable BPA free tritan plastic. Sleek shape fits in the hand and most cup holders. Includes dust cap to cover mouth piece to reduce the risk of cross contamination. |
Remove the filter and carabiner and insert the lid and bottle over the prongs. Or, hand wash with a bottle brush. Wash the bottle and back flush the filter before storing away in a cupboard. |
