Does the filter come ready to use?
Yes, but it should be cleaned first before using to maximize its efficiency and lifespan. For first time usage, simply rinse the filter and bottle with clean water and soak the filter in water for 15 minutes. The filter flow rate will be slow at first but as the water penetrates the filter's fibers, the flow rate will improve.
The filter cartridge can also be cleaned by rinsing and back flushing with clean water and then shaking it to dislodge any particulates to prolong the lifespan.
How does the filter work?
The ultrafilter eliminates up to 99.9% of waterborne pathogens and can filter any fresh water source.
The filter has two stages of filtration:
Stage 1. It uses carbon fiber, which is a super quick and efficient adsorption material. It strongly removes any unpleasant odors and tastes in water.
In contrast, most water filters only use activated carbon blocks or granulated activated carbon as a filter medium. However, once all of the adsorption points are filled, contaminated water can be released.
There are no carbon fines found in the WaterWell carbon fiber filter so secondary contamination is eliminated.
Stage 2: The 0.1-micron ultrafiltration membrane (hollow fiber) is a highly efficient method of filtration and requires no chemicals. it’s 99.9% effective against bacteria protozoa and cysts (the average size of bacteria is 0.5micron)
The flow rate increases with each use as the water penetrate each layer of the filter. This means unlike iodine purification tablets, there’s no aftertaste.
How do I know when the filter needs to be replaced?
The bottle's auto shutdown feature lets you know when the filter straw needs to be replaced. This also prevents you from drinking contaminated water.
You can purchase replacement filters here.

How does the WaterWell Filter bottle reduce waste?
By choosing to use WaterWell products you’re helping to reduce plastic waste and protect the environment. Every year, we produce billions of plastic waste, which harms the marine wildlife and ecosystem. It takes anywhere from 400 to 1000 years for plastic to break down, which means that every plastic bottle ever produced (unless destroyed) will be around long after the day you die.
In addition, vast quantities of oil, water, and other valuable resources are needed to produce and ship bottled drinking water.
One WaterWell filter filters up to 1000 liters of water, equal to 2000 disposable plastic drinking water bottles. By using our filters, you will be drastically cutting down on plastic waste, pollution, and costs!
